The Ark Nuclear Bunker
The bunker is located at Soar, a stunning position high
on the South Devon cliffs above Salcombe.
Some 18,500 square feet in size, the bunker was originally built during the early
1950’s as part of the RAF’s “Rotor” air defence scheme.
In the late ‘50’s the bunker, a semi-sunk Type R6 design, was taken
over by the Home Office as a Regional Seat of Government to be used in the event
of nuclear war.
The bunker has two principal levels, one of which is underground,
and was constructed with three foot thick, steel reinforced concrete
surrounding the whole
structure. A series of internal and external steel blast doors,
additional security shuttering and a high perimeter fence around
the facility all contribute to making the Ark bunker one VERY safe
place to house your important records!
Built to incredibly high standards of construction, the facility can now provide
businesses in the Southwest with the peace of mind that only comes with knowing
that your business-critical documentation is in safe hands.
